Under a Rock Dev Update: Massive Procedural World, Blueprint System & Underwater Overhaul Revealed

The upcoming survival adventure game, Under A Rock, recently received an exciting update from the development team at Nordic Trolls, offering a sneak peek at what awaits explorers. This game places a strong emphasis on exploration and discovery, and today’s update reveals new gameplay systems set within a procedurally generated world. Enthusiasm for the game continues to grow, with over 450,000 wishlists across digital platforms already.

Fans have been eagerly anticipating a fresh look at the mysterious, vibrant island - home to exotic creatures, oversized wildlife, and curious natives who roam the landscape. The team has been hard at work preparing for the game’s Early Access release, planned for later this year, and has spent the past few months refining the game’s core pillars to support long-term progression and development.

Today’s video showcased several major updates:

Procedural World Evolution:

The world generation system has been expanded with new "epics," improved starter crash sites, richer biomes, and more intentional structure. These enhancements make exploration feel distinct and purposeful across different regions.

Caves, Oceans, & Lakes:

Significant content and technical upgrades have been made to caves, including new modules, creatures, and underground resources. The underwater environment has received a complete visual overhaul, with swimmable lakes and the early implementation of underwater combat and pathfinding.

Base Building & Blueprint System:

Players can now enjoy new crafting and construction stations, along with a fully implemented Blueprint system. This allows players to capture, share, cloud-sync, and redeploy bases, complete with color-coding and decoration previews.

Research, Cataloging, & Journaling:

The first phase of a deeper discovery loop has been introduced, transforming exploration into structured progress. Players can research Creatura and Materia entries, which expand the in-game journal over time.

Combat, Animation, & Balance Improvements:

Combat has been refined with improved timings, clearer visual feedback, new weapons (including cursed variants), enhanced parries, rebalanced creature tiers, polished animations, and the initial steps toward underwater combat.

Environmental Hazards & Survival Systems:

New fire and drowning mechanics have been added, featuring clearer warning and damage phases to reinforce environmental awareness and preparation.
