Ubisoft's New Rainbow Six Turn-Based Tactics Game: XCOM-Style Siege Spinoff in Development
The latest game in the Rainbow 6 universe is a brand-new direction for the franchise. According to two sources, the next game will be a turn-based tactics game set in the Rainbow 6 Siege universe. While still one or two years out, the game is set to be released on the current generation of consoles; Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, and possibly the Switch 2.
Just Watch XCOM
Two sources with knowledge of the game say that the camera will be top-down, similar to what games like Diablo 4 or XCOM. Players will take control of Rainbow Six Siege operators, with one source simply stating; “Just watch some XCOM gameplay if you want to get an idea. I’d say it’s an updated version of that with cinematic cutscenes and so on.”
The game is being designed with 25-30 hours of gameplay depending on player skill, with a gameplay loop similar to Rainbow 6 Siege, with players selecting different operators based on their skills to raid buildings, save hostages, etc.

With Ubisoft’s new subsidiary with Tencent future still up in the air, staff for the game have been up in the air about the title’s future. Some staff have said the project could move to the subsidiary since it falls under the Rainbow Six IP, while others have said they did not know.
Could this new project be successful? Rainbow 6 has been one of Ubisoft’s biggest IPs, with Rainbow Six Siege surpassing 50 million players. However, the last mainline title in the series, Rainbow 6 Extraction, failed to meet internal expectations and support was quietly removed.
Do you think an XCOM-style game set in Rainbow 6 could be the turning point Ubisoft is looking for? Or will it be another failure for Ubisoft whose recent track record has not been great? Pop into our Discord TheGamerzTheory and let us know.
