Marathon Reveals All 7 Runner Shells Classes in New Developer Insights Video
Marathon, the latest Bungie title, has given players a look at the seven new classes, known as Runner Shells, with a new Developer Insights video. Each shell has its own abilities and skills with strengths for certain playstyles depending on how players want to tackle each match.
In the video, all seven Runner Shells are featured, though only six are considered the ‘main’ classes players can pick from. Currently, the choices are: Destroyer, Assassin, Recon, Vandal, Thief, and Triage. The seventh shell, Rook, is a solo queue-only class that will allow players to join ongoing matches, grab some loot, and get out with a free loadout that you will not have to risk.
Additionally a blog post shared alongside the video breaks down the differences between Cores and Implants. Both are mechanics players can use to get a boost in the middle of a match. However, Implants are generic and can be used by any Shell, where Cores require players to find one made for their specific Runner Shell.
The blog also looks at the amount of theorycrafting players can get into to create certain builds and how each Runner Shell can be pushed further by leaning into certain cores and implants. "For example, with Vandal you can lean into a mobility build, with powerful map traversal and repositioning. Equip cores that turn your double jump into a triple jump, and implants that increase your base movement speed, jump height, and improve your heat capacity."

Sadly, the one thing missing from today's video was even a hint of a release window, let alone a date for the game to hit the shelves. Hopefully that is coming very soon, as Marathon has suffered several setbacks during its development. From the original director fired for misconduct allegations, to layoffs, rumored internal issues, and even a plagiarism scandal.
