Hogwarts Legacy 2 Could Bring Online Multiplayer to the Next Game

Details may be limited regarding the next iteration of the massively successful Harry Potter-inspired adventure, but information from a job posting suggests there may be a fully integrated online multiplayer mode coming to the sequel.

As spotted by Gamerant, a job listing for a Senior Software Engineer at Avalanche Studios was posted. The listing states:

“Join the team behind the blockbuster open world, action RPG Hogwarts Legacy as we create what’s next!” It continues, “This person will work closely with project engineering, art, and design leadership to architect and implement the backend infrastructure for an online multiplayer RPG.”

Under “Good to Have,” the posting notes: “A passion for online multiplayer RPGs and deep experience with online games.”

Although this is clearly a job posting for an online multiplayer RPG, it does not confirm that it is for Hogwarts Legacy 2. Avalanche Studios has other games in development, but speculation is high that this could be for the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros’ biggest title to date, which has sold over 40 million copies across all platforms.

If this is indeed for Hogwarts Legacy 2, will the online multiplayer be a separate mode, or integrated from the beginning of the game? Will it be co-op focused? Quidditch was purposefully left out of Hogwarts Legacy, with Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black canceling the season due to past injuries. Fans were disappointed by the news that Avalanche would leave this game mode out. Will we see the addition of a Quidditch online multiplayer mode?  

Many believe Quidditch was excluded due to the release of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which was in development at the time. Now, as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has seen a massive decline in players, could adding Quidditch to the main Hogwarts Legacy game be enough to keep players engaged alongside the RPG elements of the sequel?
