ARC Raiders is Breaking Servers

Are extraction shooters becoming the new battle royale highs players have been waiting for? It would appear to be with ARC Raiders. A victory for the team behind The Finals, Embark Studios, has launched ARC Raiders to overwhelming success. With players all over the world looting the Rust Belt, the new extraction shooter has taken the world by storm.

That storm, however, saw lightning crashing through the ARC and breaking the DAM. Over the weekend, Steam numbers grew and grew, to the breaking point of over 350 thousand concurrent players. As the players began to add cracks to the dam, servers were quickly rearranged as Embark Studios was forced to turn off crossplay in hopes to keep players searching for new loot and even run into the Emperor. A massive robotic creature that can only be faced with multiple teams working in unison to take the beast down. What each player does after that…well, that’s up to them, this is an extraction game after all.

Players, myself included, ran into several issues over the weekend, from network instability issues to wait queues, and even in-game crashes. I was lucky enough to jump right back in, but was booted from the game none-the-less.

Overall, ARC Raiders has been fairly stable. Most online games these days launch with numerous issues. Yet, Embark seemed to be at the ready. With the roadmap ahead, players will be looting and shooting for months and by Embark's terms, the next decade. That’s right, ARC Raiders has just begun the long journey ahead that promises to keep players exploring, looting, grinding and much, much more for many years to come.
