Dune Awakening, the open-world survival RPG that immerses you in the Dune universe, whether you brave Arrakis alone or with friends, it’s certain to captivate fans of Dune and the survival genre for hundreds of hours. Funcom is far from finished when it comes to exploring the Deep Desert for Spice and resources as we look towards their next update and beyond.

Funcom’s developer update gives fans more to look forward to and brings one incredible feature fans have been worried about that involves player bases! It’s HUGE!

With new features that have been mentioned in previous updates are the cargo containers for our Carrier Ornithopters. The next intended patch aimed for December will enable the ability to travel between maps with harnessed vehicles with our cargo containers in tow.

Expect the usual bug fixes, skill tuning, weapon and ability balances, but some of the larger fan-requested features aren’t far off. One feature coming in the future is “Character Transfers and Server Merges.” Currently, if you create a character on one server and your friend picks up the game but begins their journey on another server, you can’t join your friend's server without being forced to start a new character. This is a much-needed addition that will help with onboarding new players and less of a worry about what server they jumped into by mistake and beginning the journey all over again. This feature is currently being tested on the PTC, (Public Test Client).

The next and probably the largest addition coming to the game will be the ability to pack up your base, until your next arrival. For those that are playing the game each and every day, there is no worry about what will happen to your base tomorrow. However, for those that have maxed out the content they enjoy, base building, gathering resources, leveling up your character’s skill and completing the story. The question becomes, what’s next? Often in that case, players will often leave as they wait for new content to arrive in the coming months. Which sounds fine, but here’s the catch. Currently, with the state of the game, if you were to leave for a couple of months, the base that you worked so hard perfectly designing…could be gone. Having you return to merely an empty landscape? You must pay your taxes, fuel your base with power cells for your generators that keep your shield alive that could otherwise turn to shambles thanks to the Arrakis desert storms.

Now, Funcom will look to introduce what they internally call the “Base Backup Tool”, a new tool that will allow players to store their entire base along with all the contents within it. Now, players don’t have to fear taking time off from the game and worry about the status of their base when they are to return.

All of these new changes coming to the game are setting up Dune Awakening for a strong future and its launch on consoles next year. Along with Chapter 3, where the team plans to focus more on enriching the endgame experience and much, much more.
