PlayStation Games to Release on Next-Gen Xbox It’s Been Claimed
With the term “Exclusives” slowly becoming less of a competition with the need to have a game launch in front of more players than ever, just look at Sarah Bond's statement of “console exclusives are becoming antiquated.” There clearly isn’t the desire for the big 3 to keep creating games that hold players to one platform. Or is there?
Xbox has led the charge in bringing their first party exclusives to other platforms. Gears, Forza Horizon, Sea of Thieves, among others have made their way to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. Though it doesn’t seem likely we’ll ever see Mario make an appearance on Xbox, but, never say never though. It does bare the question about PlayStation spreading their wings with their first party titles.
We’ve seen Aloy, Kratos, Jin Sakai and even Spider-Man swing the streets of Manhattan on PC. Something many fans would never have thought to see the light of day, PlayStation games on a competitive platform. Though a smart move, PlayStation has always held back from launching on the green machine, until Helldivers 2 (note, Arrowhead is not a first party studio) breached the walls of the Xbox console for players to enjoy, something PlayStation fans have been slaughtering bugs in the face of Democracy for months.
Now it’s been claimed the next-gen Xbox will allow Xbox players to be able to play the games of blue on their Xbox device of choice. With Xbox and PlayStation both gearing up for the next console to launch in 2027, Jez Cordon of Windows Central has stated Xbox will allow fans to add storefronts to their consoles. With that in mind, fans will now be able to add Steam and Epic Games storefronts to the next-gen Xbox console, allowing players to bring PlayStation PC titles to Xbox.
Playing Any Game, On Just One Device.
This is something fans have dreamed of. No longer would we need to purchase 3 consoles for each box to sit under our TV’s. Just one device to rule them all! Or at least to add PlayStation… Nintendo is not likely to play nice in this manner however.
Jez went on to say:
“You will be able to run PlayStation’s PC titles like God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man on the next Xbox, purchased via Steam or Epic Games. You will be able to play World of Warcraft on the next Xbox, via Battle.net. You’ll also be able to install practically any game that runs on Windows, giving you access to decades upon decades of content all on a single device.”
Times are changing with the push to have more and more players in any given game at any given time. The need for profits to rise is higher than ever. And, if you keep your console/platform closed off, you're only hurting the bottom dollar and the growth of the game. It is a workaround to get PlayStation titles on Xbox, but it’s the largest step we’ve seen so far since cross-platform in allowing other console-exclusive titles to breathe new life.
