The Challenges of Ukraine Development

We hear this more and more lately, “After a lot of internal discussions” you guessed it, we’re getting another game delay. Game delays are for good reason. Though we can see a broken game have a resurgence after many patches, it’s often best to delay a game when it’s not ready, rather than receive the criticisms of a failed launch. CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 and Hello Games No Man’s Sky were two of the lucky titles to receive continued post-launch support that would eventually see both titles rise in fame and fortune to finally outweigh the negative launch criticism they each had received. Not all teams are so lucky. Instead, their best move is to delay the game for further bug fixes and polish. Which is exactly what Frogwares Team has done with The Sinking City 2. Though the team had never given an official 2025 release date, it was all but implied the game would look to launch at some point this year.

Now in an official post on socials, Frogwares Team has had an internal discussion with the team to “shift the release window for The Sinking City 2 to the first half of 2026."

Frogwares Team is in an unfortunate situation, being based in Ukraine. Meaning, the decision to delay the game was due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Constant power outages, unstable and dangerous conditions have all led to the effects and pace of development. Rather than racing to meet a target, the team will use the additional time “to polish their first ever survival horror experience”.

Game development is always tough, but in these conditions, it's unfathomable. Let us know if you’re hyped for Frogwares Team's newest title, a shift from their investigative adventures to a more survival horror genre that will be built on tension, pacing, combat and atmospheric pressure that should excite horror fans alike.
