Warren Spector Returns to Stealth: Thick As Thieves Launches This Year
Thick As Thieves is set to come out later this year, a return to the stealth genre for legendary game designer Warren Spector leading the way for OtherSide Entertainment. Spector is best known for creating Deus EX and Thief: The Dark Project, a pair of groundbreaking stealth games, but Spector has not released a game since the Epic Mickey series wrapped up in 2012.
We got a few more details about the game thanks to Alex Van Aken, who had a chat with game director Jeff Hickman. Thick As Thieve is set in the alternate 1910s, set in the Scottish city of Kilcairn, where magic and technology abound.
“There are very few game-making teams out there with the skillsets to make a great stealth game, which is one of the biggest reasons, in my opinion, that we don’t see many games like this in the market. Our goal is to make a game that is full of emergent gameplay moments and very approachable to any person who wants to play.

Of course, maybe the biggest draw to the game is the multiplayer functions, as it has been the one area stealth games have been lacking to really nail at times. Hickman gave a little info on the ideal approach to multiplayer games in Thick As Thieves.
“Multiplayer stealth games provide amazing opportunities for cooperative and competitive gameplay, and we’re focusing on breaking new ground in space in a way that takes advantage of multiplayer gaming without the player frustrations that can arise because of it,”
Hickman went on to say that multiplayer missions will have players complete missions in half an hour or less, with a focus on tighter-scoped levels, but with enough depth, variety, and surprise to give these levels replayability.
What are your expectations for Thick As Thieves? Do you think it will finally nail the multiplayer stealth genre? Let us know in the comments and come hang out with us in the GamerzTheory Discord.
