Xbox Project Helix, Sony's PS6, Handheld: Rumored Targeting Holiday 2027 Release

Xbox Project Helix, Sony's PS6, Handheld: Rumored Targeting Holiday 2027 Release

With GDC 2026 in full swing, we got a little bit more info surrounding the recently announced Xbox Project Helix, the next generation console for Xbox. Jason Roland, vice president at Xbox, said that alpha versions of Project Helix’s development kits will not be distributed to developers until 2027.

This, of course, sparked some debate about when Helix would be available to players if even developers were forced to wait until 2027. However, according to AMD leaker Kepler_L2, both Xbox’s Project Helix and the PlayStation 6 are currently targeting the holiday season of 2027 for the projected release date.

Kepler_L2 also said that the rumored PlayStation handheld is also set to arrive at the same time. While it is all just a rumor, it is nice to see that, for now, the next generation of consoles is set to release within the next year, as there has been nothing but rumored delays due to chip shortages popping up recently.

Of course, the next issue with these consoles might be the price, and that is the rumor that might be even more important. Early speculation about Project Helix says the console might come in at a 4 digit price tag, which has sparked some early concerns. Hopefully, things do not get too crazy as Xbox and Sony work during the ongoing memory crisis.

What are the chances we see the next console generation in 2027? Do you think the price tags for the PS6 and Project Helix are going to be absurd? Let us know in the comments and come wait for the next generation with us in the GamerzTheory Discord.
