Sony Cancels Bloodborne Remake Plans as Bluepoint Games Closes
Bloodborne Remake had potential, but PlayStation shut it down. The final hours of Bluepoint Games are upon us, with one of the industry’s best remake studios closing its doors.
All information provided comes from a reputable source, Detective Seeds on X, who spoke with four employees from Bluepoint Games.
After the release of the Demon’s Souls remake, many at the studio assumed Bloodborne would be the team’s next project. The team began preparing work for a Bloodborne remake; unfortunately, the project was never greenlit by Sony - leaving Bluepoint Games to believe a Bloodborne remake will likely never happen due to internal politics.
Sony reportedly did not believe remakes and remasters were generating enough profit, and both Sony and Bluepoint wanted the studio to branch out creatively. Bloodborne was shelved, leaving Bluepoint Games without a dedicated project. The team was then assigned to assist Sony Santa Monica with God of War Ragnarök.

This was followed by Jim Ryan’s push toward live-service games at Sony. Bluepoint later learned that the new God of War spin-off they were creating would be designed with live-service elements in mind. This new God of War project was set to explore different mythologies and characters, without Kratos as the main protagonist, as Sony Santa Monica reportedly lacked confidence in the concept and the cost of including Kratos was considered too high.
After Bluepoint Games was acquired by Sony in 2021, the team was tasked with developing an original project - moving away from what they were best known for: remakes. However, the live-service God of War project faced missed deadlines and was ultimately canceled. Sony then shut down both the project and Bluepoint Games, effectively ending any remaining hopes of fans receiving a Bloodborne remake.
There was also discussion of a Jak and Daxter remake, as well as the possibility of Resistance coming to PS5 in the form of a remake.
This has been a wild story to cover, and there will likely be more developments to follow, as Bluepoint Games is set to officially close its doors on March 2, 2026. Another sad chapter for the industry.
