Scramble Knights Royale Revealed at Day of the Devs 2025: Adventure Battle Royale with Zelda Vibes

Former PixelJunk developer Eddie Lee left the studio to create his own team, Funktronic Labs, where they launched several VR games, including their most recent title, The Light Brigade. Now, they are venturing into new territory with the world premiere of Scramble Knights Royale.

At first glance, one might think, “Animal Crossing royale?” However, don’t let the cute art style fool you. This title was inspired by classic adventure games like The Legend of Zelda, but Funktronic Labs describes the game as an adventure battle royale.

Most battle royale games feature players being dropped from the sky into their desired location. Here, players will sail by boat with 30 to 40 others and leap off to ride the wave, or in this case, a turtle, which acts like a surfboard to help you reach land.

Typically, battle royale games have players run to the inner circle to be the last one standing. In Scramble Knights Royale, the adventure is part of the journey. Each player begins with nothing, similar to most battle royale games, but there’s an adventure game twist. When you begin your journey, it’s up to you to find your gear, loot dungeons, solve puzzles, and challenge yourself with boss fights - all while searching for better equipment. You can also upgrade your gear at the local blacksmith or buy secondary upgrades to aid you in battle.

While you are on your adventure, so are the other players who sailed in with you. They are living out their own adventures. However, when the ring begins to close, the battle royale aspect of the game becomes prevalent, with intense PvP combat and a fight for survival.

You won’t have to head out on your adventure solo, as you can bring a friend along in duos, or have them over and play the rare classic couch co-op in split-screen. Scramble Knights Royale will be coming to Steam and Xbox consoles. Keep an eye out for their upcoming playtest by visiting the game’s Steam page.
