Beastro: Cozy Cooking Deckbuilder
Timberline Studios previously released The Red Lantern, a story-driven, rogue-lite survival game where you and your team of five sled dogs are lost in the wilderness and must navigate the challenging encounters of the Alaskan bush to find your way home.
Now, the team is back with something a bit different and vibrant.
In their Day of the Devs presentation, Timberline showcased their next game, Beastro. In this game, you play as Panko, a chef who cooks the finest ingredients for the heroes that come to your town. Set in a fantasy world, Beastro is a cozy deck-building adventure centered around culinary wizardry. As a chef, you will gather ingredients and resources, fish, care for animals, and grow your farm to build up your own cozy town. You’ll cook for the heroes, known as the caretakers, who visit the town of Palo Pori.
But it’s not all cozy!
Prep and execution are divided into day and night cycles. During prep, you’ll take on mini-game challenges to prepare for the day ahead. Execution involves a deck-building battle system, featuring a unique cardstock art style that sets it apart from the rest of the experience.
Crafting each meal perfectly rewards Panko with unique abilities. Building bonds with heroes helps them in battles and brings you one step closer to saving the world through your mastery of cooking excellence. Cooking is only one part of the game; after each meal, heroes return to share their tales, which play out in a card battle system where you select cards to face monstrous beings.
Playing off culinary elements - bitter, salty, sour, sweet, or umami (the pleasant savory taste in Japanese) - you must battle each monster by exploiting their strengths and weaknesses in the puppet show card battles. Once you win a fight, you’ll be rewarded with new ingredients to expand your culinary repertoire, helping your heroes become the ultimate champions as you work together to save Palo Pori.
The world is your Oyster in Beastro, the team also revealed one last surprise, a demo for the game is out today over on their Steam page.
Let us know what you think of Beastro over in our Discord. Will you be taking the culinary challenge?
